“The Monkey Tree” by Michele Heeney is now available for purchase

You are so firmly planted
In a world of force and logic,
Can you dare imagine
A translucent, subtle world
Of flow and light?

“The Monkey Tree” by Michele Heeney is an imaginative and deeply reflective collection of poetry that explores the unpredictable landscape of the human mind through wit, humor, philosophy, memory, spirituality, love, travel, creativity, and self-discovery. Proudly published by Citi of Books, this is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major retail platforms.

Michele Heeney is an accomplished poet, photographer, and former obstetrics and gynecology nurse practitioner whose creative work reflects a lifelong passion for both caring for people and observing the natural world. Before devoting herself fully to the arts, Heeney spent many years working as a registered nurse and later as an OB/GYN nurse practitioner, serving communities in Pennsylvania and California, including patients through Planned Parenthood and a county hospital caring for Mexican farm workers.

Her experiences extend far beyond medicine. Heeney served with the Peace Corps in West Africa, studied Spanish in Costa Rica, explored the underwater world through scuba diving in Fiji and Micronesia, and lived on a 6,000-acre ranch bordering the Big Sur wilderness, where she worked as a caretaker for a regional park district. These experiences are reflected throughout her poetry, where landscapes, wildlife, memory, and spirituality frequently intertwine.

The Monkey Tree continues her tradition of crafting thoughtful, imaginative collections that invite readers to see both themselves and the world through fresh, compassionate eyes. The Monkey Tree is Michele Heeney’s third book of poems and photographs.

“The Monkey Tree” is compelling because it captures the full range of human experience with remarkable honesty, humor, and imagination. Michele Heeney refuses to confine poetry to a single emotional register. Instead, she allows joy, grief, satire, philosophy, romance, creativity, and playful absurdity to coexist naturally, creating a collection that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.

One of the collection’s greatest strengths is its memorable symbolism. The recurring monkey serves as a clever and engaging metaphor for the restless, adventurous, imaginative side of human nature. Through this recurring figure, Heeney explores the tension between conformity and freedom, logic and creativity, routine and adventure.

Another compelling aspect is the accessibility of poems. While many pieces contain philosophical depth, Heeney writes with clarity, warmth, and humor, making the collection approachable for both long-time poetry enthusiasts and readers who may be discovering contemporary poetry for the first time.

The collection also rewards repeated reading. Many poems reveal additional layers of meaning with each return, encouraging readers to reflect on their own experiences, relationships, dreams, and personal journeys. Whether exploring love, identity, imagination, or the natural world, Heeney consistently offers fresh perspectives through vivid imagery and concise language.

Most importantly, “The Monkey Tree” reminds readers that life is richest when curiosity is allowed to flourish. Through poetry that is playful, reflective, humorous, and deeply humane, Michele Heeney celebrates the untamed imagination within us all and encourages readers to embrace both the wisdom and the delightful unpredictability of the human spirit.
