He is an ordained minister of the Word and music. In addition, he serves as a volunteer chaplain in Collin County and is a member of the Princeton and Branch Volunteer Fire Departments. James has twice received the Allen Independent School District PTA Citizenship Award. He and his wife, Kathy, have five grown children and eleven grandchildren. They live in Princeton, Texas.
