Los Angeles Times Festival of Books Recap: Danna Southwell’s Memorable Book Signing of “Bertha: The Ordinary Chicken”

Attracting around 150,000 attendees from Southern California and beyond, the festival was a testament to the enduring appeal of literature and the community it fosters. In collaboration with Citi of Books, the author of “Bertha: The Ordinary Chicken,” Danna Southwell, held a successful book signing event during the 2025 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

Danna Southwell resides in sunny California with her husband, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they are proud parents to six children and doting grandparents to 15 grandchildren, creating a vibrant family tapestry filled with love and laughter.

Danna has dedicated 44 years to successfully owning and operating her own piano studio, where she finds immense joy in nurturing her students’ musical talents and witnessing their growth as they master the instrument. Outside of music, she has a passion for quilting, gardening, and raising chickens, each hobby bringing her a sense of fulfillment and connection to the world around her.

Her book was featured by Citi of Books during the 76th Frankfurt International Book Fair last October 2024 and during the 2025 London Book Fair last March 11-13.

“Bertha: The Ordinary Chicken” is a children’s book inspired by the authors’ shared passion for raising chickens, the story brings to life the unique personalities and motherly instincts of these feathered friends.
