“Gay Notions: Four Short Plays On The Gay Experience” by Floyd Stephen Alexander is now available for purchase

That melting pot idea don’t hold water. We don’t all mix well. You stand by those two broads that come on T.V. spouting that bull about “lifespan development”? It’s natural to be like that?

“Gay Notions: Four Short Plays On The Gay Experience” by Floyd Stephen Alexander is a dramatic and emotionally charged collection of short plays that explores the realities, struggles, and emotional experiences of members of the LGBTQ+ community. Proudly published by Citi of Books, the book is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major retail platforms.

Floyd Stephen Alexander was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the golden age of Broadway classics (Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Saint Joan, A Street Car Named Desire). A self- proclaimed “Philly Kid”, Floyd got bit by the stage bug in high school and did high school and community theatre work to get some stage experience. Floyd is married to Nikki Alexander and has two daughters, Jessie and Blake Alexander. He Attended Upsala College to study Theatre and Speech Communications (Workshop 90) and perfected his acting skills in various productions.

After graduation, Floyd headed for the Village, signed up with HB Studios, and attended Cold Reading class. Got a few acting jobs but got homesick and headed back to Philadelphia. Floyd moved cross country to San Diego, California, entered military service, and decided to pick up the pen and write plays. It was at the Community Actors Theatre (CAT) that his first play, Dracula, was performed.

Through a series of interconnected themes, the plays address issues such as rejection, prejudice, emotional isolation, and the painful effects of intolerance on both individuals and families. The stories are written to provoke reflection and conversation, encouraging readers and audiences to confront the human cost of discrimination and misunderstanding.

The collection highlights how fear of difference can lead to devastating consequences, including fractured relationships, emotional trauma, and acts of violence. Some of the narratives touch on tragic events such as hate-driven violence and the emotional pain experienced by individuals who struggle to find acceptance from society or loved ones. Despite these difficult themes, the plays also carry messages of hope, compassion, and resilience, emphasizing the importance of listening, understanding, and standing against intolerance.

Throughout the collection, the author encourages open dialogue between communities, presenting storytelling as a bridge toward empathy and healing. The plays challenge audiences to recognize shared humanity beyond labels and differences, ultimately promoting acceptance and emotional understanding.

The book stands out because it uses theater as a platform for exploring deeply human experiences rather than relying solely on political or social commentary. Through personal stories and emotional dialogue, readers are invited to understand the emotional weight carried by individuals facing rejection, fear, and discrimination. This human-centered approach makes the themes more relatable and impactful.

Ultimately, “Gay Notions: Four Short Plays On The Gay Experience” is more than a collection of dramatic works—it is a thought-provoking exploration of identity, acceptance, and the urgent need for empathy in today’s world.
