Dr. Tryphena Ruth Banks is a compassionate and dedicated healthcare professional, educator, author, and advocate whose life’s mission is to uplift, empower, and inspire others. A Registered Professional Nurse with a Master’s degree in Nursing Education and a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration, she currently serves her community through her work with Virtua Healthcare System and as an adjunct professor at Jersey College in Ewing, New Jersey.

Born in Ganta, Nimba County, Liberia, Dr. Banks is of Bassa, Dan, and Gola heritage. Her early years were shaped by transitions between the homes of her parents, grandparents, and extended family—experiences that cultivated resilience, adaptability, and a deep appreciation for culture and kinship.

In January 1986, as a teenager, she emigrated to the United States and settled in New Jersey. Navigating the challenges of a new country, she embraced education as a pathway forward. Through perseverance, grit, and an unwavering belief in the value of hard work, she transformed obstacles into opportunities for growth and achievement.

As a single mother raising four children, Dr. Banks refused to let circumstances define her potential. Her academic success and distinguished career in healthcare reflect her steadfast determination and self-discipline. She is the author of two inspiring works—Bridging the Gap: A Survivor’s Guide to the Gen Jungle and Stronger Than You Thought: Discovering Resilience in Unexpected Situations—both of which embody her passion for guiding others through adversity toward empowerment.

Dr. Banks lives by the guiding principle:
“It does not matter where you started, but where and how you finish is what matters the most.”
