The author of the book “After the End,” Clifford Ramirez, was interviewed by Benji Cole of CBS Radio. They talked about the in-depth nature of the book’s theme and inspiration during the interview. Clifford A. Ramirez invites readers into a powerful narrative that blends Mayan history, personal reflection, and spiritual discovery, offering a fresh vision of the afterlife and the meaning of eternity.
In “After the End,” Clifford Ramirez takes readers on a transcendent and soul-searching journey that blurs the boundaries between life and the afterlife, offering a powerful vision of eternity, healing, and enlightenment. The novel begins with Professor Carey Roberts, a man once gripped by the fear of 2012—the predicted end of the world according to interpretations of the Mayan calendar. But rather than an ending, Roberts discovers that 2012 marked a new beginning, not just in history, but in his own spiritual awakening. Life, as Ramirez masterfully conveys, is not a conclusion, but an unfolding—an evolution that continues beyond the visible world.

Clifford A. Ramirez, a retired consultant, trainer, and nationally recognized expert on the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the regulations governing student privacy. After earning a BA in English from the University of Notre Dame, he studied for the Roman Catholic priesthood and worked for Bank of America before becoming a student services professional, holding positions at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); Antioch University, Los Angeles; Pomona College; and Claremont Graduate University. The founder of Cliff Ramirez & Associates, he was also associated with Registrar and Enrollment Services Consulting for Colleges and Universities (RESCCU). He is the author of FERPA Clear and Simple: The College Professional’s Guide to Compliance (Jossey-Bass, 2009).
Two years after the fateful year, Professor Roberts returns to the Yucatán, driven by a deep curiosity to uncover the wisdom of the Mayans. His intellectual pursuit, however, takes an unexpected turn when tragedy strikes, pulling him into a deeply personal and transformative experience. Caught in the company of Tyler West, a renowned American journalist, Roberts finds himself thrust into a series of life-
changing events that lead him to Kaan—a place whose very name, meaning Heaven in the Mayan language, sets the tone for the novel’s profound spiritual journey.
Ramirez enriches this narrative with a cast of vivid and meaningful characters. Among them are Claude, the gentle caretaker whose compassion brings comfort; Roon, a Middle Eastern teacher burdened by a haunting past; and Vinya, the wise librarian who helped Roon find his path to light. Each figure embodies a lesson about humanity, resilience, and divine purpose. Meanwhile, enigmatic figures like Phyllis Clout, Yuan, and Patrick reveal the layers of mystery and revelation that await those willing to see beyond appearances.
What sets “After the End” apart is its daring reimagining of the afterlife—not as a static destination, but as a vibrant continuum where souls continue to grow, heal, and connect. Ramirez presents eternity not as a conclusion, but as a living, breathing evolution of consciousness, filled with opportunities for reconciliation and discovery. Every ending, he reminds readers, is merely a bridge—one that carries us forward into deeper understanding and unity with creation itself.
Through lyrical prose and thoughtful storytelling, Clifford Ramirez invites readers to question what it means to live fully, to love deeply, and to let go gracefully. The novel is as much a philosophical reflection as it is a deeply human tale—one that encourages introspection about our own lives, relationships, and beliefs about what lies beyond.
For anyone who has ever grappled with loss, regret, or the mysteries of existence, “After the End” offers solace and inspiration. It is a reminder that even when all seems finished, there is always more to learn, more to love, and more to become. Ramirez’s vision of eternity will leave readers uplifted, contemplative, and profoundly moved.
A stirring tale of transformation, healing, and hope, this book redefines what it means to find life beyond life—and meaning beyond the final breath.
