Building on the success of its 2025 edition, the BIBF remains committed to fostering cultural connections through literature. Citi of Books  was honored to showcase the work of its talented authors on the international stage, presenting a diverse range of titles at the 2026 Beijing International Book Fair. This prestigious global event provided an invaluable opportunity to connect these works with readers, publishers, and literary professionals from around the world while celebrating the power of books to bridge cultures and inspire meaningful conversations. Among the featured works that drew attention from attendees was “After the Sunset” by Arlene Pullen.

“After the Sunset” by Arlene Pullen is a reflective travel memoir that combines personal experiences, observations of nature, historical insights, and everyday moments into a thoughtful collection of essays. The book follows the author as she explores various destinations, walks through beaches and historic streets, encounters wildlife, and appreciates the beauty found in both distant places and familiar surroundings. Rather than focusing on dramatic events or a single storyline, the memoir celebrates the small details that often make life meaningful—sunsets, landscapes, animals, conversations, and moments of quiet reflection. The author’s observations transform ordinary experiences into memorable stories that encourage readers to slow down and appreciate the world around them.

Arlene Pullen grew up in a small New Jersey town with a brother and a sister. Leisure time was filled with outdoor activities. She graduated from college and experienced a lengthy but rewarding career as a teacher, using vacation time to visit Europe and Caribbean beaches. Her constant travel companions were a journal, two cameras, some books, and a wide-brimmed hat. Since retiring, she has visited forty-eight more countries and written a family history, three books of poetry, and three books of essays based on her travel experiences. After the Sunset is the last of the memoirs. She lives in New Jersey.

The memoir also intertwines the author’s love for travel with her affection for the cats living in her backyard. These feline companions become recurring figures throughout the narrative, adding warmth, humor, and companionship to the book. Through travel experiences, literary references, historical observations, and personal anecdotes, Pullen creates a collection that celebrates curiosity, exploration, and the simple pleasures of everyday life.

The book’s greatest strength lies in its gentle reminder to slow down and observe the world carefully. Through beaches, sunsets, animals, cities, and memories, Pullen shows that life’s richest experiences often come from paying attention to the beauty that surrounds us. Her thoughtful storytelling creates a warm and comforting reading experience that encourages readers to reflect on their own journeys and appreciate the simple pleasures that make life meaningful.

As BIBF continues to unite readers, writers, and publishers across continents, Citi of Books remains proud to contribute to this global celebration of storytelling and knowledge. We look forward to the continued growth of international literary connections at BIBF 2026 and beyond, where books serve as bridges between cultures, ideas, and generations.
