Yurie Endo Halchak was raised in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; the family later moved to Kamakura. She graduated from Meiji University, received a bachelor’s degree in literature and a curatorship license. The internship for the curator license was done at Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (The Japanese Sword Museum, often called NBTHK) in Tokyo. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics at the California State University of Northridge.
Her study of Japanese swords began through the strong influence of her father, a metal-related manufacturing company owner, who collected Japanese swords and other art objects. She studied Japanese swords in a study group run by a friend of his as well as at home with her father on his collection. Currently, she lives in Los Angeles.
