Sydney Herrera

Born in Siparia, Trinidad and Tobago, one of fourteen siblings, first to attend high school, extremely trying upbringing including being left at various individuals because of hardships, outstanding student even though getting food or clothes was challenging throughout his school age years.
Had a “near-death” experience in early teens in which he heard a voice say he had to go back because “no one knows where he is and his work is not done yet”. He believes his education and life’s path is related to, and strongly influenced by this experience.
Graduated high school then worked for several years in the oil industry, left Trinidad in 1984 to learn computer programming in London, England. Emigrated to US in 1986, and has since worked as a software engineer.
As a software engineer, worked on many systems in both private and governmental agencies, on mainframe and distributed environments, one of the few who are expert on mainframe, middleware and distributed computer architectures and software applications. Specialized in modernizing legacy applications transforming legacy applications and migrating from relational databases to big data warehouses both on-prem and cloud based. Winner 2021 Innovation Award from MongoDB for an AI software application that he designed and built.
