Dr. Nuran Nabi obtained his Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biochemistry from Dhaka University, Bangladesh; Post Graduate Diploma from Osaka University, Japan; Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Kyushu University, Japan; and did his Post Doctoral research at New York University, USA.
He was a lecturer of Dhaka University in the early 1970’s and a member of the Dhaka University Senate. He has been living in the USA since 1980. He worked for Colgate-Palmolive for twenty-two years and is co-inventor of Colgate Total toothpaste technology. In addition, Dr. Nabi has more than a hundred patents and publications to his credit.
He retired in 2006 from Colgate-Palmolive before deciding to take public office. Dr. Nabi has served as Councilman of Plainsboro Township, NJ, USA since 2007.
Dr. Nabi also currently serves as a Board Member of Applied Research and Photonics, Inc, USA and American Super Specialty Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
He was the President of Student League’s F. H. Hall branch; a dedicated activist during the 1967-1971 Bangladesh Liberation Movement. He was a valiant freedom fighter of the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Based on his heroic contributions to the Bangladesh Liberation War, the Far Eastern Economic Review, referred to Dr. Nabi as “the Brain” of the Tangail Freedom Fighters Forces. He was awarded a special citation by the Commander- in-Chief of Bangladesh.
In the 1980’s, Dr. Nabi played a leading role in establishing the “Committee for a Democratic Bangladesh” and later in the 1990’s established the “Committee for the Realization of Bangladesh Liberation War Ideals and Trial for Bangladesh War Criminals.” He spearheaded these two organizations from the USA.
He is the Founding Co-Convener and current President of “Bangabandhu Parishad, USA”; Founding General Secretary and Former President of the Bangladesh Society of New Jersey; and a patron of the Bangladesh Association of New Jersey.
Dr. Nabi was also a Founding Member and Former Chairman of the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA); Founding Director of the America-Bangladesh Friendship Caucus; Founding President of the Bangladeshi Americans Against Terrorisms, Inc.; President of the Society to Help Education in Bangladesh International (SHEBI); and Former President and Editor of the Weekly Probashi, New York.
Dr. Nabi was the Publisher of the first Bengali Book “20 Years after Liberation” published in the USA.
Dr. Nabi has been speaking in various forums in the USA including State University of New York, Rutgers University, Kean University, Monmouth University, Montclair University and Philadelphia Community College to make awareness about the Bangladesh genocide 1971 and demanding the trial of Bangladesh war criminals.
Dr. Nabi’s wife, Dr. Zeenat Nabi is also a research scientist. They have two sons, Mush Nabi and Adnan Nabi. The Nabi Family is now permanently living in NJ, USA.
