Ilah Rose Sharp (Davis) is a devoted mother, grandmother, Transit Security Curator, and the author of the poignant book “The Gift.” Her passion for writing ignited at the tender age of 10, serving as a creative outlet to cope with the profound grief of losing her mother. Her journey began with an essay titled “My Most Prized Possession,” where she beautifully captured cherished memories and adventures shared with her mother. As she transitioned into young adulthood, Ilah’s writing evolved into poetry, inspired by literary greats like Edgar Allan Poe and Shakespeare. In the early 2000s, she showcased her poetry on the platform Poetry.com, further honing her craft. After becoming a mother to two children, she ventured into writing children’s books, creating stories that delighted her kids, even if her first manuscript remained unpublished.
Ilah’s writing took on a new purpose when her husband fell ill, prompting her to pour her emotions into “The Gift” to help with his medical expenses. Tragically, he passed away before the book could be published, adding a layer of poignancy to her work. Following this loss, Ilah returned to her birthplace in Washington State, where she now resides in SeaTac with her two beloved dogs. She continues to embrace her passion for writing while enjoying walks with her furry companions, baking, and crafting handmade quilts. Ilah’s journey is a testament to resilience and creativity, as
Throughout “The Gift,” as the holiday season approaches, the children embark on a heartfelt mission to create gifts for a stranger in their valley. Each child pours their heart into their creations: Soldier crafts a tin soldier to symbolize protection, Bubbles paints a sunrise to inspire joy, Max contributes money to help feed a family, Mary offers the gift of love through a comforting embrace, and Angie grows a beautiful rose to honor an old grave. Their dedication to their gifts reflects the true spirit of giving, setting the stage for a touching Christmas adventure.
On Christmas morning, the children and their parents gather to celebrate, singing and dancing as they prepare to deliver their gifts. However, upon arriving at the first house, they discover a family without a tree or decorations. Recognizing the need for more than just a tin soldier, Soldier rushes home to bring back a tree and decorations, demonstrating the essence of selflessness. As the children present their gifts, the joy and wonder on the recipient’s face illuminate the true meaning of Christmas. This act of compassion reveals the true meaning of Christmas, which is spreading love to everyone even if you are not bonded by blood.
As the story unfolds, the children realize that their gifts have created a bond that transcends mere charity; they have found a new friend in the child they set out to help. Angie’s heartfelt suggestion to welcome the boy into their family highlights the importance of love and community. The parents, moved by their children’s compassion, vow to care for the boy and ensure he feels the warmth of their love. In a beautiful twist, the rose Angie laid on the grandmother’s grave blooms into a bush that connects the headstones, symbolizing the enduring love that binds them all together. “The Gift” by Ilah Rose Sharp is a touching reminder of the power of kindness, the importance of family, and the magic of giving, making it a perfect read for the holiday season and beyond.
