“The Aukmondi: Secret of the Yululu Bone” by H.D. Higgins is now available for purchase

“The Aukmondi: Secret of the Yululu Bone” by H.D. Higgins is an epic historical novel that paints a vivid and emotionally charged portrait of East Africa during the height of the transatlantic slave trade in the 18th century. Published by Citi of Books, this is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major retail platforms.

With meticulous detail, heartfelt storytelling, and spiritual depth, Higgins weaves a multi-layered narrative that is as thrilling as it is culturally significant. The story begins with the Chinchigwe, a peaceful East African tribe, whose village is decimated by the brutal Batushi slave hunters. What unfolds is a journey of loss, courage, ancestral memory, and ultimately—redemption. As the story moves from tragedy to transformation, readers are immersed in a tale that challenges colonial narratives and brings forward a powerful African voice that reclaims history and humanity.

H.D. Higgins Jr. was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. After studying psychology for two years at the University of Arkansas, he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served for more than twenty years in military intelligence, and completed tours of duty in England, Turkey, Italy, and Japan. He retired from the Air Force in 1995 and has since lived in Baltimore where he works as a technical writer. This is his first novel, but he is hard at work in a second.

One of the most profound themes in “The Aukmondi: Secret of the Yululu Bone” is that of ancestral memory and identity. The Chinchigwe are repeatedly urged by their dying Mfalme (chief) to survive for the sake of their ancestors. This sacred connection between past and present is a spiritual through-line of the book, affirming that remembering one’s roots is both a source of strength and a moral responsibility. Another central theme is the battle between greed and community—embodied by Captain McIntyre’s obsession with control, profit, and the power of the Yululu Bone, contrasted with the cooperative, non-materialistic values of the Aukmondi.

“Aukmondi: Secret of the Yululu Bone” is a compelling read not only because of its richly drawn characters and cinematic plot but because of the powerful cultural reclamation it represents. It invites readers to imagine an Africa not defined by colonization but by its own values, systems, and legacy. Higgins gives voice to characters who resist dehumanization with intelligence, spirituality, and bravery. His world-building is immersive, with vivid depictions of landscapes, tribal customs, and ancient wisdom that pull readers into a fully realized cultural tapestry.

The novel is both an adventure and an education, a call to remembrance and an ode to survival. For readers who long for stories that uplift, challenge, and enlighten—this is a book not to be missed.

The journey isn’t over. H.D. Higgins is already crafting Book Two in the Aukmondi series—so prepare to return to this unforgettable world, where new adventures, deeper mysteries, and even greater stakes await.
