Ezra Bayda’s inspirational book, “Skating on Thin Ice: A Zen Path of Self-Realization,” was among the books featured in the December 2024 issue of The New York Times Book Review (NYTBR) magazine.
Ezra Bayda was born in 1944 in Atlantic City, New jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in philosophy, and began practicing Zen meditation in 1970, receiving permission to teach in 1995. He taught with his wife and fellow teacher, Elizabeth Hamilton, until his retirement in 2019. He now lives and teaches informally in La Jolla, Ca. He is the author of eight books, including his most recent, Skating on Thin Ice.
“Skating on Thin Ice: A Zen Path of Self-Realization” is a treasure trove of wisdom for anyone seeking to navigate the complexities of life with greater presence and compassion. In this insightful book, Bayda addresses the vulnerability and uncertainty that we all experience as human beings, offering practical advice on how to transform anxiety and confusion into life-affirming experiences. His clear and accessible language makes the teachings relatable, encouraging readers to embrace their challenges rather than resist them.
Bayda emphasizes the importance of understanding over judgment, urging us to open our hearts instead of closing them in the face of adversity. This counter-intuitive approach is not only effective but also deeply transformative, as it fosters a sense of connection and gratitude in our daily lives. The author’s teachings are grounded in real-life situations, making them applicable to the everyday challenges we all face. His vulnerability in sharing personal experiences adds depth to the mindfulness practices he offers, illustrating how they can alleviate suffering and awaken a more compassionate self.
Readers like Diane Cox, co-author of “Life Changing Choices,” find inspiration in Bayda’s message, recognizing the need to return to a path of gratitude, kindness, and love.
“Skating on Thin Ice” serves as a powerful reminder that by embracing our vulnerabilities and practicing mindfulness, we can cultivate a more fulfilling and connected life. This book is highly recommended for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of themselves and enhance their relationships with others.
