“If A Dog Wore Socks” by Cindie Hudson is now available for purchase

“If A Dog Wore Socks” by Cindie Hudson is a playful exploration of imagination and possibility. The story unfolds through a simple yet clever question: if dogs could wear socks, when and where would they wear them? The narrative rhythmically asks children to imagine a dog in various everyday (and not-so-everyday) situations — wearing socks while swimming, sleeping, playing fetch, or even riding a bike. The book’s humor lies in its absurdity, encouraging readers to think creatively while giggling at the silliness of it all.

Cindie Hudson is a native of Kokomo Indiana, and like so many others, was strongly impacted by the events that took place on 9/11/2001 at the World trade centers in New York City. After witnessing the amazing work at ground zero by golden retrievers, Hudson knew she wanted to volunteer and give back to her community. Hudson was always a dog lover, but obtaining Harlee and Seger, two golden retrievers which were trained and certified therapy dogs, that she found her passion and the rest is history.

Harlee, who passed in 2022, was involved in reading programs for children at local schools and libraries. Seger spent much of his time at the hospitals and picked up where Harlee left o with reading programs for children. Both Harlee and Seger visit Grissom Air Force Base helping out service members and veterans. Hudson has witnessed the great impact pet therapy can have and her passion has led her to authoring two children’s books-YELLOW DOG AND IF A DOG WORE SOCKS.

Few things capture the wonder of childhood quite like a “what if” question. “If A Dog Wore Socks” by Cindie Hudson takes that spark of curiosity and spins it into a playful adventure, where imagination runs wild and laughter follows every turn of the page. Through rhythmic repetition and simple, engaging phrasing, this charming picture book invites young readers to explore endless possibilities — one silly sock at a time.

With each page, Hudson opens the door to creative wonder. Children will giggle as they imagine dogs wearing socks in the bath, on a bike, or even while playing fetch. The rhythm of the story encourages participation, prompting readers to ask their own questions and join in the fun. It’s a perfect read-aloud book that brings parents and children together through laughter and imagination.

Each question builds upon the last, inviting children to picture the improbable and delight in the ridiculous. By the end, the book delivers its punchline with perfect timing: “If a dog wore socks, well that would just be funny.” It’s a reminder that joy can be found in simplicity and that imagination is one of the greatest gifts of childhood.

Ultimately, Hudson’s story reminds readers — young and old — to embrace joy, curiosity, and playfulness. In a world that often grows too serious too soon, this book is a gentle invitation to pause and laugh. It affirms that imagination has no rules, and that laughter, like love, is best when shared. The image of a happy dog in socks becomes a symbol of lighthearted freedom — a call to stay curious, silly, and kind.

“If A Dog Wore Socks” is a delightful celebration of imagination, laughter, and love — a picture book that proves even the simplest “what if” can lead to the most magical adventures.
