“Diary of a Dying AIDS Patient: Death by Betrayal” by Shirl A. Jefferson circles on Kelly, as she attempts to get over her heartbreak over her high school boyfriend, Todd, and establish a successful business both fails. She holds on to her beliefs, one of which is to give herself only to the man she will marry. Her boyfriend believes otherwise and when Kelly refuses to give in to his desires, he leaves her for another woman.

What a scar Todd had left on her heart but she knew that eventually she would heal; but just how long would that take?

Kelly sets out to take a risk in New York, where a position as a real estate broker awaits. She only needs a partner who will love and appreciate her, and Kevin, an investment banker, enters Kelly’s life and quickly falls in love.

Kelly and Kevin enjoy married life until a previously unknown part of Kevin’s background is revealed. Kelly discovers that Kevin has been in a gay relationship with an AIDS-positive guy. After she learns she has been infected with HIV. With the disease taking its toll on Kelly’s body, Kevin chooses to break off their marriage and live apart. Kelly, betrayed and brokenhearted for the second time, returns home to her parents, where she wrote every day in a diary and spends the rest of her life.

Overall, this story aims for its readers to explore themes of heartbreak, trust, and betrayal in relationships. The story highlights the emotional and physical toll of the disease, as well as the sense of betrayal Kelly feels from her husband, Kevin, and her ex-boyfriend, Todd. Ultimately, it sheds light on the struggles of living with AIDS and the importance of support, resilience, and self-worth in the face of life-altering circumstances.
