The author of the book “Strike A Match,” Sandy Study, was interviewed by Benji Cole of CBS Radio. They talked about the in-depth nature of the book’s theme and inspiration during the interview.

“Strike A Match” by Sandy Study is a unique daily devotional crafted to create an atmosphere where the heart can worship, and the mind can be refreshed and challenged. This inspiring work is a passion project born from 21 vital truths revealed to the author throughout her personal faith journeys that have transformed her life in a deeply beautiful way. Compiled over years of intimate journaling, these foundational, soul-strengthening reflections and affirmations are now shared with readers as a source of encouragement and spiritual renewal.

Sandy Study is a 33-year operating nurse, surgical first assistant. It has been her main job but along the way she has done many things. She has been a youth mentor, mission trip leader, and a life coach. She lived in a small town in Pennsylvania close to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

The author’s prayer is that readers will hear the heart of God as they engage with each day’s content—reading, meditating, and journaling. A lit candle becomes a symbol of hope, peace, and reflection throughout the journey. Over the course of 21 days, this devotional aims to awaken the senses to what God may be speaking personally to everyone. Readers are reminded: they are a light; their devotion time, a guide; and their prayers, love notes to God.

“Strike A Match” was born from the author’s life struggles and questioning about her life and asking God “what is happening in her life?”.  After her husband dies due to cancer, she was there in her house, meditating and contemplating about her life. She doesn’t know where she’s going and is trying to figure out life in general. She began collecting her old journal notes and started jotting down things. Thus, this devotional book was crafted to be that gentle guide—something you could pick up, even in chaos, strike like a match, and light up your day spiritually.

Every chapter is fueled by the author’s own stories of healing, breakthroughs, and the surprise of seeing God at work in seemingly mundane moments. Strike A Match is more than a collection of readings—it’s an invitation into rhythm, presence, and worship. It doesn’t overwhelm with heavy theology or long passages; instead, it offers strips of light—one spark at a time.

“Sometimes we get upset with God because we can’t see what He sees or sees from His own perspective.”
