International book fairs play an important role in creating connections, bringing together the people and ideas that continue to shape the publishing industry. This year, LIBER Feria Internacional del Libro 2026 welcomed the global publishing community to Barcelona for three days of networking, professional exchange, business opportunities, and conversations that opened new paths for books and their creators.

Taking place from September 29 to October 1, 2026, at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, Hall 1, LIBER 2026 served as a meeting point for the Spanish-language book industry and an important bridge between Europe and Latin America. The 44th edition brought together publishers, authors, agents, distributors, booksellers, rights buyers, and other industry professionals, creating opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, explore new markets, and discover possibilities within the evolving world of publishing.
Among the titles represented by Citi of Books at this year’s international gathering is “Lanie Loves Ice Skating” by Terri Allen. The book gives readers another opportunity to discover the author’s creative work and adds another distinctive title to the range of stories being brought into the LIBER community. Through its presence at the fair, the book can become part of conversations surrounding literature, publishing, and the ways authors can connect with readers across different markets.
Terri Allen has enjoyed watching skating competitions on television for years. In 1996, she had the opportunity to travel to Minnesota for the World Competition, an experience she describes as magical, she even received pictures and autographs from several skaters. One of Terri’s favorite skaters is Michelle Kwan, whom she admires for her incredible talent and grace and that passion for the sport ultimately helped her inspire Lanie’s story.
“Lanie Loves Ice Skating” introduces readers to eight-year-old Lanie Melana, a young girl with a big dream: to learn how to ice skate. Lanie loves watching ice skating competitions on television, she admires the skaters, their talent, and the beauty of the sport itself. More than anything, she wants to experience the ice for herself, but making her dream a reality isn’t easy.
When Lanie visits the ice rink, she faces an unexpected challenge. Because she is overweight, other people make fun of her. Instead of giving up on her dream, however, Lanie discovers a different, creative and even magical way to learn how to skate. Through practice, determination, and a positive attitude, Lanie finds a way to enjoy the sport she loves.
At its heart, “Lanie Loves Ice Skating” is a story about believing in yourself when others don’t. Lanie’s journey reminds young readers, especially children’s that everyone learns differently and that challenges don’t have to determine what we can accomplish. Sometimes, achieving a dream means finding a new approach, practicing patiently, being surrounded by people that would support you, and most definitely, having the courage to keep going.
The book also encourages children to look beyond what others say about them and recognize their own potential. Filled with pictures that bring Lanie’s story to life, “Lanie Loves Ice Skating” is designed to entertain, inspire, and encourage young readers to pursue the things they love.
The book would offer readers inspiration from Lanie’s journey and take something meaningful from it: don’t give up on the things you love simply because the path isn’t easy. Lanie’s story shows that setbacks, criticism, and unexpected challenges can be overcome with determination and creativity. Her experience on the ice is a reminder that sometimes the best way forward is to find your own way.
For children who have ever felt different, been teased, or wondered whether they could accomplish something they dreamed about, Lanie’s story offers an encouraging message: You don’t have to learn or succeed the same way everyone else does. You just have to keep moving forward.
With its focus on international business, professional networking, and the expansion of Spanish-language publishing into European and Latin American markets, LIBER provides a setting where these connections can take shape.
