Citi of Books Highlights “The Monkey Tree” by Michele Heeney at LIBER Feria Internacional del Libro 2026

International book fairs play an important role in creating connections, bringing together the people and ideas that continue to shape the publishing industry. This year, LIBER Feria Internacional del Libro 2026 welcomed the global publishing community to Barcelona for three days of networking, professional exchange, business opportunities, and conversations that opened new paths for books and their creators.

Taking place from September 29 to October 1, 2026, at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, Hall 1, LIBER 2026 served as a meeting point for the Spanish-language book industry and an important bridge between Europe and Latin America. The 44th edition brought together publishers, authors, agents, distributors, booksellers, rights buyers, and other industry professionals, creating opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, explore new markets, and discover possibilities within the evolving world of publishing.

Among the titles represented by Citi of Books at this year’s international gathering is “The Monkey Tree” by Michele Heeney. The book gives readers another opportunity to discover the author’s creative work and adds another distinctive title to the range of stories being brought into the LIBER community. Through its presence at the fair, the book can become part of conversations surrounding literature, publishing, and the ways authors can connect with readers across different markets.

“The Monkey Tree” by Michele Heeney is an imaginative and deeply reflective collection of poetry that explores the unpredictable landscape of the human mind through wit, humor, philosophy, memory, spirituality, love, travel, creativity, and self-discovery.

Michele Heeney is an accomplished poet, photographer, and former obstetrics and gynecology nurse practitioner whose creative work reflects a lifelong passion for both caring for people and observing the natural world. Before devoting herself fully to the arts, Heeney spent many years working as a registered nurse and later as an OB/GYN nurse practitioner, serving communities in Pennsylvania and California, including patients through Planned Parenthood and a county hospital caring for Mexican farm workers.

Her experiences extend far beyond medicine. Heeney served with the Peace Corps in West Africa, studied Spanish in Costa Rica, explored the underwater world through scuba diving in Fiji and Micronesia, and lived on a 6,000-acre ranch bordering the Big Sur wilderness, where she worked as a caretaker for a regional park district. These experiences are reflected throughout her poetry, where landscapes, wildlife, memory, and spirituality frequently intertwine.

The Monkey Tree continues her tradition of crafting thoughtful, imaginative collections that invite readers to see both themselves and the world through fresh, compassionate eyes. The Monkey Tree is Michele Heeney’s third book of poems and photographs.

“The Monkey Tree” is compelling because it captures the full range of human experience with remarkable honesty, humor, and imagination. Michele Heeney refuses to confine poetry to a single emotional register. Instead, she allows joy, grief, satire, philosophy, romance, creativity, and playful absurdity to coexist naturally, creating a collection that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.

With its focus on international business, professional networking, and the expansion of Spanish-language publishing into European and Latin American markets, LIBER provides a setting where these connections can take shape.
