I asked God if this was something like what I would experience when I was ready to minister to people, and he said yes. What a wonderful feeling I felt, and I just smiled at the moment to come. Pastor John Gray said he cried for two days for the joy of this day. I knew exactly how he felt. God has a way of making you feel so joyful when you never knew that you could feel more joyous.
an excerpt from the book
“My Journey, My Los Man” by Darnice Harrison is a deeply emotional memoir that chronicles a mother’s painful and exhausting journey as she cares for her critically injured son following a devastating medical tragedy. Proudly published by Citi of Books, the book is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major retail platforms.
Darnice Harrison was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the mother of three boys and one girl. She was raised as a Christian and continues to walk in the faith. She has a strong passion for art and enjoys painting, drawing, and crafting as hobbies. She meditates on the beauty of nature and God’s use of its vast array of colors. Following a tragic accident, she felt the urge of God speaking to her and decided to focus on heeding God’s voice, which led her to writing the events that she was experiencing in this season and ultimately led to the writing of this book.
Her compassion for others allows her to empathize and seek to be a testimony of how she made it through. She currently resides in Oklahoma and works as an insurance agent, serving people and sharing God’s amazing word any chance she gets. She continues to seek and hear the voice of the Almighty God daily in hopes to be led to reach people abroad with her testimonies.

Written in diary-like reflections filled with raw honesty, prayer, fear, hope, and emotional endurance, the book captures the heartbreaking reality of hospital life, uncertainty, caregiving, and unconditional maternal love.
At the center of the memoir is Carlos, affectionately called “Los” or “Los Man” by his mother. After suffering a catastrophic medical condition that leaves him hospitalized and largely unresponsive, Darnice Harrison documents every emotional moment of his recovery journey: the coughing fits, therapy sessions, signs of awareness, difficult medical decisions, sleepless nights, and the emotional loneliness of watching a loved one fight for survival day after day.
Rather than presenting a polished inspirational story, Harrison writes with painful honesty about fear, exhaustion, frustration with medical care, emotional isolation, financial stress, and the desperate hope that even the smallest movement—a toe wiggle, blinking eyes, or a hand squeeze—might signal progress. The result is an intensely human memoir about caregiving, resilience, faith, and the bond between mother and son.
Darnice Harrison does not attempt to hide the fear, exhaustion, anger, uncertainty, or heartbreak involved in watching a child fight for survival. Instead, she invites readers directly into the emotional reality of hospital rooms, sleepless nights, prayers, setbacks, and fragile moments of hope.
The memoir also offers powerful insight into the emotional struggles caregivers often face silently: fear of losing a loved one, financial stress, physical exhaustion, frustration with healthcare systems, and the loneliness of constantly carrying emotional responsibility.
Most importantly, “My Journey, My Los Man” is ultimately a testimony of love that refuses to surrender. Through pain, uncertainty, and exhaustion, Darnice Harrison’s unwavering devotion to her son becomes a powerful reminder of the strength found within faith, family, and unconditional love.
