Attending book events like the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books continues to play an important role in connecting stories with readers. It opens doors for collaboration, discovery, and inspiration that go beyond the pages of a book. As Citi of Books carries this momentum forward, readers are invited to explore featured titles in their Book Gallery, including “Once in a Lifetime Comes a Man“ by Grace B Larson.
Grace B Larson was born in Hot Springs, Montana in 1940. Her delivery was by a midwife. She grew up on a large sheep ranch that her grandparents owned. Her parents had divorced when she was eight months old. Grace describes herself as a jack of all trades and a master of none. She raised three sons and two daughters. Her daughter, Robin, died from MS when she was forty-one years old. Grace’s husband passed away in December of 2013. Her life was controlled by circumstance until she and Lyle married. He was always there for her after that. Grace has trained and shod horses, skidded logs, operated a day care center, cleaned houses, and spent fourteen years as a chemical dependency counselor. She was a journeyman painter for fourteen years. High work, spray painting, sandblasting, etc., for herself, contractors, and the Anaconda Company. She was the first woman to work in the trades in Anaconda Company.
At the 2026 LA Times Festival of Books, “Once in a Lifetime Comes a Man” by Grace B. Larson was proudly displayed in the Citi of Books gallery, drawing readers into a deeply personal story of love, memory, and second chances. The book gently unfolded the emotional return of Lyle into the author’s life after 18 years apart, showing how fate quietly brought two lives back together at a time when both had already been shaped by years of living. Visitors were instantly pulled in by its heartfelt tone and the sense that this was not just a story, but a lived experience.
What made the book stand out at the festival was its sincerity. Readers lingered over the idea that true love can appear only once in a lifetime, yet still leave a lasting imprint long after time has passed. Through letters, reflection, and memory, Grace B. Larson shared how she came to fully understand the depth of Lyle’s character, his kindness, humor, and steady presence. It resonated with many who stopped by the booth, especially those drawn to real-life love stories that feel quiet but powerful.
By the end of the display, the book left a warm impression on festivalgoers. It reminded readers that love is not always loud or perfect, but often found in simple acts of understanding, loyalty, and witness to one another’s lives. Once in a Lifetime Comes a Man stood out at LATFOB 2026 as a tender celebration of a man remembered with deep affection, and a relationship that continues to live on through words, memory, and enduring gratitude.
