Robbi Muir is a graphic designer, illustrator and author of “Max the City Dog: A Day at the Beach”. She started her career as an illustrator in Vancouver after completing a BA in Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia. She has been a graphic designer in New York City since 1985. Robbi loved drawing since childhood, and recently rediscovered her passion for water color painting. “Max the City Dog” is her first children’s book and the intent is to create a series. She lives with her husband in Brooklyn right on the ocean at Brighton Beach. The book describes real places and landmarks along the beach -the New York Aquarium, Nathan’s on the boardwalk and Coney Island’s Luna Park amusement area.

Did you know that dogs can sense danger long before humans do? It’s one of the many reasons dogs are often called our most loyal companions and a man’s best friend.

“Max the City Dog: A Day at the Beach” by Robbi G. Muir is a delightful children’s book that was showcased at the 2026 London Book Fair. With its charming storytelling and beautiful illustrations, this book invites young readers into a sunny seaside adventure through the eyes of a very special dog named Max.

Max lives in Brooklyn and loves taking the subway with his “people family” to Coney Island Beach. From the moment he arrives, Max is ready for a day of exploring. He strolls along the boardwalk, soaks up the warm sunshine, and dashes happily along the shoreline with his five-year-old friend Joey. The beach is full of familiar faces, including friendly lifeguards who know Max well. The story captures the simple joy of a summer day by the ocean, seen from a dog’s playful and curious perspective.

But the day quickly turns into an exciting moment of bravery. When Max notices Joey struggling in the big waves, he springs into action. Barking loudly and racing along the sand, Max alerts the lifeguards just in time. Thanks to Max’s quick thinking, Joey is rescued and brought safely back to shore. It’s a touching reminder that courage can come from the most unexpected heroes, even the ones with four paws and wagging tails.

Perfect for children ages four to seven, “Max the City Dog: A Day at the Beach” is a wonderful read for families who cherish the special bond between kids and their pets. The story celebrates friendship, loyalty, and looking out for one another.
