Citi of Books proudly announces the publication of the book “Our Human Odyssey: Becoming Female and Male” by Ramón Piñón Jr. This book is a comprehensive exploration of critical aspects related to the development and biology of our reproductive system. Purchase it through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retail sites.
Ramón Piñón, Jr., retired from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) after 36 years of teaching and research. He taught a wide variety of classes spanning a broad area of modern biology, developed the first human reproduction course in the UCSD Biology department in 1973, and taught it for many years. Out of that experience came his textbook, Biology of Human Reproduction, published by University Science Books in 2002. The transformation of his textbook into a form more suitable for the lay reader has led to his latest books, Our Human Odyssey: Becoming Female and Male, which focuses on the biological aspects of our reproductive system, and Friction and Fantasy: Opening Pandora’s Jar, a historical and scientific exploration of human sexuality.
“Our Human Odyssey: Becoming Female and Male” is an informative guide that dives deep into the captivating science of human reproduction. It explores lesser-known biological aspects along with historical and cultural viewpoints.
The book starts with the intricate formation of sperm and eggs, then journeys through fetal development to adulthood, including puberty and the changes our reproductive systems undergo as we age. It explores fertilization, childbirth, and even the surprising connection between the womb and our health later in life. You’ll also encounter insightful information on miscarriage, birth defects, various birth control methods, the reasons behind infertility, and even the cutting-edge world of assisted reproductive technologies. To round it out, the book provides appendices with detailed explanations of sex chromosomes, mutations, hormones, and disorders related to sexual development.
