“A Silent Cry” by Chief Hacha Kusso was displayed at the 75th Frankfurter Buchmesse

The 75th Frankfurter Buchmesse, the largest trade show for books, was held every year in Frankfurt, Germany. For worldwide business and trading, it is regarded as the most significant book fair on earth.

The Frankfurt Book Fair celebrated its 75th anniversary, celebrating literary and cultural diversity. With a series of activities prepared, one of the most anticipated this year is the chosen country to be the guest of honor, which is Slovenia. The country will present not just its diverse, unique qualities as an attractive place to travel but also as a country with a rich literary tradition.

This year, Citi of Books joined the largest book fair in the world. We were excited to present books written by our distinguished authors. In our assigned booth, a range of books—from fiction to nonfiction—would be on exhibit. A book included in the display was “A Silent Cry” by Chief Hacha Kusso.

Pearla Gillespie Harvey, also known as Chief Hacha Kusso, has a degree in pastoral care and is self-employed as a beeswax candle maker. Along with her husband, Dijon, she resides in South Carolina.

The pages of “A Silent Cry” describe the heartbreaking realities that a young woman named Clair is facing. Enduring sexual abuse at a young age, as well as other personal abuses throughout her life, Clair must struggle with the difficult realization that her family is not a source of safety and security for her. These traumas teach her to feel different, victimized, and defenseless, even into her adult years, and the result is severe depression.

Afraid to trust anyone yet afraid of turning them away, Clair eventually reaches out to the counsel of a caring aunt, who tries to show her an alternative to her lonely life through faith in God and finding peace within herself.

The story of Clair’s strong will to move forward and her aunt’s sincere words and guidance offers hope for those experiencing similar personal dilemmas as well as inspiration for those who can reach out to help a loved one through unimaginable difficulties in life.
