The author, Jon F. Gleman, was born just outside of Charleston, West Virginia. His family moved out of Charleston when he was a little more than one year old and made a couple of stops on their southward journey before settling in Miami, Florida, when he was six years old. These stops and growing up in Miami in the 1950s and 1960s cemented his love of nature.

Jon has had several careers during his journey. He graduated with a BS in biology from the University of Miami and worked as an ecologist for many years in the 1970s and 1980s. During this time, he created and ran a small mail-order bookshop on the natural sciences, The Naturalist Bookshop.

In the mid-80s, he took a sharp turn in his career and worked for 26 years for Boeing at the Kennedy Space Center as an engineer and later a manager. He then took a management position for a large, prestigious architecture and engineering firm in Orlando. During this time, he started a custom woodworking shop, Gleman and Sons Custom Woodworks, with his sons that provided many unique and extraordinary items for individuals as well as companies such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando.

Jon is now retired and is dedicating his journey through his book, “Life’s Journey (Volume 1),” to generating awareness of just how fortunate we are to be part of life here on our planet, Mother Earth, and the responsibilities we must protect and preserve our home.
